Polaroid sunglasses fit over: What is the difference between Polaroid and polarized sunglasses?
Polaroid fit-over sunglasses: What is the difference between Polaroid and polarized sunglasses?
Polarized fit-over sunglasses are about reducing glare
When sunlight hits water, asphalt and other shiny surfaces surfaces, it can create strong reflections.
Polarized sunglasses are designed to reduce some of this glare. When paired with a fit-over frame, you can get the benefits of polarized sunglasses without having to replace your regular prescription glasses.
When you're looking for Polaroid fit over sunglasses, you're probably interested in sunglasses that can both be worn over your regular glasses and reduce annoying reflections from the sun.
But here's an important difference that many people overlook: Polaroid is the name of a specific brand of glasses, while polarization is a technology that is used in sunglasses from several different manufacturers.
This means that a pair of sunglasses can easily be polarized without being manufactured by Polaroid.
At PREGO, you will find, among other things, polarized Suncover sunglasses, which have been developed to be used without regular glasses. An example is the PREGO Lucca Suncover Classic Black, which combines polarized green/grey sunglasses with UV protection.
In this article we review the difference between brand and technology, how polarized lenses work and when they can be a good choice.
Are Polaroid and polarized sunglasses the same?
No, and the difference is important when comparing products.
Polaroid Eyewear is an established eyewear brand known for its historical connection to the development of polarizing materials.
The term polarized sunglasses, on the other hand, describes a feature of the lenses, not who made them.
When researching fit-over sunglasses, you may you can therefore easily find models with polarization from manufacturers other than Polaroid.
If the most important thing is glasses with polarization, you can compare several brands based on their specific properties.
How do polarized glasses work?
To understand polarization, you can imagine a sunny day by the water.
The sunlight comes from the sky, but part of it is reflected from the water surface. The reflections can be very strong and make you squint.
A polarizing filter is designed to dampen certain directions of the light's oscillations. Thus, it can reduce a large part of the annoying glare from, for example, horizontal surfaces.
The result is often that the surroundings feel more pleasant to look at, because the sharp reflections are dampened.
However, this does not mean that all reflections disappear, or that polarized glasses improve vision in every situation.
The advantage of polarization under driving
Asphalt and other road surfaces can reflect a lot of light, especially when the sun is low.
Polarized sunglasses can reduce some of the reflected glare and make driving more comfortable in suitable daylight conditions.
For eyeglass wearers, a polarized fit-over model can be interesting because you retain your normal eyeglass strength and at the same time get an extra layer sunglasses.
However, there are also conditions you should be aware of. Polarized glasses can make certain displays in the car more difficult to read, depending on the technology of the screen and the viewing angle.
They can also reduce the visibility of certain reflections, which can be useful for detecting, for example, ice on the road.
Therefore, you should always assess how the glasses work together with the car's instruments and the current conditions.
When comparing polarized sunglasses, you should look at more than the brand. Polarization, UV protection, the darkness of the lenses and the fit of the frame each have their own meaning.– Jesper Krog Jensen

Are polarized lenses and UV protection the same?
Polarization and UV protection perform two different jobs.
Polarization reduces certain types of reflected, visible light. UV protection, on the other hand, is about limiting how much ultraviolet radiation passes through the glasses.
A pair of sunglasses may therefore have polarized lenses without necessarily offering the UV protection you want.
On the other hand, ordinary sunglasses with good UV protection can work fine, even if the lenses are not polarized.
When you buy sunglasses, you should therefore check both properties for each say.
What does filter category 3 mean?
Sunglasses' filter category describes how much visible light the lenses let through.
Filter category 3 are dark sunglasses that are suitable for strong daylight. They are often used in regular sunglasses for summer, holidays and outdoor activities.
However, the filter category does not in itself tell how well the lenses protect against UV radiation. The two pieces of information must be evaluated separately.
Dark sunglasses in category 3 are also not suitable for night driving.
Can polarized sunglasses be used for all activities?
Polarized lenses are particularly relevant when you want to reduce reflections from water, roadways and other glossy surfaces.
On the other hand, they can make certain digital screens difficult to see. This can, for example, apply to mobile screens, car instruments and other LCD displays.
They are therefore not necessarily the best choice in every situation.
Consider which activities you will primarily use the sunglasses for, rather than automatically assuming that polarized lenses are always better.
